Events Calendar


On Monday, October 15, United WAG will attend a special “meet and greet” with Cesar Millan, also known as the “Dog Whisperer.”  This intimate event is hosted by Pets’ Trust Miami and 101 Exhibit and United WAG looks forward to showing its solidarity with the good work of Pets’ Trust Miami, a grassroots initiative to fund low-cost spay/neutering services in our community and to end the needless annual killing of over 20,000 adoptable dogs and cats.  A minimum donation of $100 to the Pets’ Trust Miami is required to secure one RSVP; payments will not be accepted at the door.  To RSVP, email and donate at


In 2012, United WAG continued its tradition of participating in the Miami-Dade County Youth Fair and Exposition!  For the third year in a row, UWAG sponsored a Dog Park Landscape Design & Construction (Division 100) competition as well as a poster contest for high school and middle school students.

Occupying Barkupy Miami! In February 2012, United WAG joined other community organizations at Tropical Park in support of ending the killing at Miami-Dade County Animal Services shelters with the formation of a “Pets Trust” in Miami-Dade County.  For more information about “Barkupy Miami” and the proposal for a Pets’ Trust, check out

Second-grade students at Redland Elementary School, Norland Elementary School, and Rockway Elementary School were visited on “Career Day” by United WAG for presentations on animal-related career opportunities in May 2011.

For the second year in a row, United WAG proudly participated in the Miami-Dade County Youth Fair and Exposition.  UWAG hosted a Dog Park Landscape Design & Construction (Division 100) competition for high school and middle school students.  Final judging took place on 03/17/11.  This year, 586,000 people attended The Fair.  The Grand Champion winner of the Dog Park this year was the John A. Ferguson Senior High School team.

Sarah Wood Borak, a longtime Board member of United WAG, ran a full marathon in Miami, 01/30/11. The UWAG performance wear t-shirt that she made especially for this event, and others just like it, are available for purchase with a portion of the proceeds to be donated to UWAG.  Contact for more details.

Yappy Happy Hour at “Woofstock,” as Board member Oria Alcantara got her groove on at the 60s-themed event, which was held at the Newport Beachside Hotel & Resort, 16701 Collins Avenue, North Miami Beach, FL on 01/27/11.  See for more information.   

PetFest 2011 at Cauley Square Historic Railroad Village ( on 01/16/11. A Pet Pageant for the “Most Beautiful” and “Best Dressed” was judged.  PetFest 2011 was sponsored by PETCO, Redland Animal Hospital, and the Pet Chamber of Commerce (of which United WAG is a member).

United WAG held a special happy hour event on 11/18/10 at Picnic, 1400 20th Street, Miami Beach, FL (  Attendees learned more about United WAG’s groundbreaking K-8 animal welfare education program and how they could contribute to United WAG’s mission.

PetFest 2010 at Cauley Square Historic Railroad Village (, 08/22/10 – Located at 22400 Old Dixie Highway, Miami, FL.  A Pet Pageant for the “Most Beautiful” and “Best Dressed” was judged, and all family-friendly pets (on leashes or in carriers, as appropriate) were welcome.  PetFest 2010 was sponsored by PETCO, Redland Animal Hospital, and the Pet Chamber of Commerce (of which United WAG is a new member).

Back to School Rally, American Airlines Arena, 08/20/10-To kick off the new school year, United WAG welcomed students, parents, and educators to pick up free information (not to mention stickers, pencils, and perhaps a stuffed bear for one lucky student) concerning animal welfare and pet care.

Salon Poochini’s 10th Anniversary Party, 09/26/09-Erica Richter, the staff at Salon Poochini, the salon’s loyal and furry customers, and the Board of United WAG all celebrated 10 fabulous years at the salon by enjoying tasty treats created by Chef Lindsay.  The celebration also honored United WAG, which is near and dear to Ms. Richter’s heart.

“Yappie Hour” hosted by Saloon Pooch-ini and Bacardi, 06/28/07 -United WAG held a happy hour, a “Bark-ardi” bar, special drawings, paw reader and pet photographer.  Event took place at Saloon Poochini at 1017 Kane Concourse, Bay Harbor Islands.

Stop the Violence-How to Halt the Cycle of Abuse Seminar, 01/23/07 – Offered by the Caring Fields Animal Sanctuary Education Center, the speakers were Phil Arkow, the Interim Director for the American Humane Association’s Human-Animal Bond Center and chair of the the Animal Abuse & Family Violence Prevention Project for The Latham Foundation, and Lieutenant Sherry Schlueter, who created and commands the Special Victims and Family Crimes Section,a unique entity within the central detective bureau (Criminal Investigations Division) of the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.  Lt. Schlueter was the first “animal cop” and the writer of the original Florida felony animal cruelty statute.

Wine Tasting and Pet Portraits with Santa, 12/13/06 - Vine Wine Shop hosted a sampling some amazing wines from their collection while pets were photographed with Santa.  A portion of the evening’s wine and photography sales went to United WAG.  A special thanks to Vine Wine and to

“No Dogs Allowed,” 10/21/06 and 10/28/06 – United WAG hosted a table to distribute information before the show “No Dogs Allowed” at the Actor’s Playhouse in Coral Gables.  Our special thanks to Barbara Stein and the Playhouse for giving us this opportunity to spread the word about United WAG.
